Why MSN Search Engine is so bad

MSN search has to be one of the worst search engines out there. I'm consistently amazed at the quality of search results that I receive.

When the Internet first started search engines were very new and exciting. However, the results often received would be less then desirable. When Google stepped up to the plate in 1998 the world of search engines changed forever.

Fast-forward 8 years. MSN releases their final launch of it's search engine, Live Search. Live Search has not been the overall success that MSN had hoped because of too many changes and unfamiliar format. However, I think they haven't had great success because of the one major flaw. It's terrible!

I just did a search in Live Search for Finance. Here is the first three results

1. Yahoo Finance
2. Google Finance
3. Wikipedia Finance

You think that because there is a MSN finance that it'd be the first result. However, you'd be wrong. In fact, MSN Finance isn't even listed on the first 10 pages (yes, 10) of the search results. What does Google or yahoo results look like? First in each search engine. Duh! finance.google.com and finance.yahoo.com are first respectively.

Microsoft / MSN - Get it together! If you want people coming to your websites you might want to optimize your websites for searching. Maybe the webmasters / programmers should read Search Engine Optimization For Dummies.
