Maximizing Your Air Miles Points

Maximizing your air miles is important to making the most out of your points. Many people spend a whole year (or much longer) collecting air miles for a free flight. What they don't know is that they can collect air miles much faster. Quite simply by following the weeks best air miles deals.

Furthermore, they can maximize they're points by simply following a few simple steps outlined below. If you do follow these steps you'll be sure to maximize your reward miles. Thus maximizing your dollar and waiting less time till your next flight! And that's what we all want! To collect a free flight faster. (don't we!)

Book Early

  • The first step is to book early. If you're looking for important holidays book NOW. The longer you wait the less chance you'll get good flight times and air miles points.

Be Flexible

  • The second step is to be flexible. Set a couple of days that you'd like to travel. If you are bent on getting a specific date then you might have problems.

Compare Prices

  • Finally, compare to the cost of purchasing the flight. Check what the cost of that specific flight is with Expedia, Travelocity, Major Airlines and Travel Agents. Determine if using your air miles is worth the points using the following information.

    • Calculate price of the cheapest flight
    • The number of airmiles needed for your flight
    • Calculate ratio of dollars-to-air miles

If it's lower then 6.25 it's a good deal. Much higher and your miles are better off elsewhere. Remember. If those airmiles are burning a hole in your pocket you can always use your air miles for Gift Certificates.

The other trick is to get an air miles credit card. However, that's a topic for a whole other discussion.

You have to check your number of points online at airmiles.ca or by calling the number on the back of your card.

Hopefully that helps!
